INDIANAPOLIS - Indiana gay marriage supporters are forming a coalition to build support for their cause following high-profile battles over the issue.
Hoosiers Unite for Marriage launched Wednesday.
Group director Kyle Megrath said Tuesday that one of their first acts will be sending petitions to Attorney General Greg Zoeller asking him to drop his backing of the state's gay marriage ban.
The American Civil Liberties Union and groups called Liberty Indiana and Freedom to Marry are joining the new coalition.
The group's launch follows just days after the Indiana Republican Party approved a platform that supports defining marriage as between one man and one woman.
Lawmakers earlier this year considered placing a constitutional ban on gay marriage before voters in November, but delayed action on the issue.
