(CINCINNATI) - A grandmother accused of killing her 4-year-old grandson in a DUI crash was jailed on a $1 million bond, police reported.
Geanna Mitchell's grandson died late Saturday night after her SUV overturned in Cincinnati.
Police said Mitchell's grandson, Logan, died at Children's Hospital after Mitchell lost control of her 2003 Ford Explorer. Investigators accused Mitchell of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
Witnesses said Mitchell drifted into the southbound lanes of traffic on a bridge at about 10 p.m. Saturday. While trying to get back into her lane, she struck a minivan head on and the SUV overturned.
Mitchell's 9-year-old daughter, Raine Mitchell, was also in the Explorer at the time of the crash. The girl survived the incident with only minor injuries.
A witness pulled Logan Mitchell from the Explorer.
Geanna Mitchell was thrown from the SUV but only received minor injuries.
The driver of the other vehicle in the crash was treated at the scene.
Cincinnati police charged Geanna Mitchell with two counts of vehicular homicide and theft.
Investigators say Geanna Mitchell stole the SUV from her daughter -- Logan's mother -- Terria Mitchell.
Records show Geanna Mitchell also has a suspended driver's license.
Geanna Mitchell was jailed on a $1.1 million bond. Her next court appearance is set for June 11.
