(INDIANAPOLIS) - Indianapolis Metropolitan Police are investigating after a man was found dead in a car at the entrance to IU Health Methodist Hospital early Wednesday morning.
Police say shortly after 3:30 a.m. a woman pulled up to the front entrance to the hospital in a car. She told hospital personnel a man in her car had been shot and needed help. When hospital personnel examined the man, he was pronounced dead. Police say they don't believe the woman was involved in the shooting.
Investigators are still trying to piece together what happened and where the shooting happened.
Detectives located a scene on the city's east side where they say the victim was likely shot in the 2500 block of Brookside Parkway North Drive. That scene had shell casings on the street and a vehicle with fresh bullet holes. At 3:25 a.m. about a block away, someone called police after hearing gunshots being fired.
Police say they do not believe the shooting was a random act, but have not released any other details of their investigation
The victim has been identified as a 36 year old male but police have not released his name at this time.
