(NEW CASTLE) - An Indiana prison inmate has been sentenced to another 15 years behind bars for brutally attacking a prison guard.
26-year-old Cameron Israel Nelson was sentenced Monday, a month after a Henry County jury found the Fort Wayne man guilty of aggravated battery for the June 2013 attack at central Indiana's New Castle Correctional Facility.
The Star Press reports witnesses say Nelson approached a 30-year-old guard as he was supervising a recreation period and punched the man in the face.
Prosecutors say Nelson then stood over his fallen victim and punched him repeatedly in the head and face, leaving him with a broken jaw and other injuries.
Nelson won't begin serving the new sentence until he completes an eight-year prison term imposed in 2012 for an Allen County robbery conviction.
