(PENDLETON) - State officials say a central Indiana prison inmate has been moved to an isolation ward in another prison after testing positive for active tuberculosis.
The inmate had been at the Pendleton Correctional Facility, but was moved to the Miami Correctional Facility and placed in an isolated negative air-flow room. The man is receiving a standard four-drug TB treatment.
Indiana's health and corrections departments say staff at Miami Correctional Facility who may come into contact with the inmate will wear protective masks until he's no longer infectious.
Inmates and staff who came into contact with the patient will be screened for symptoms and given a skin test that shows whether a person has ever been exposed to TB bacteria.
Any individuals who test negative will be retested in 10 weeks.
