(PARKE CO.) - A 27-year-old Rockville man died near Sugar Creek in Parke County on Monday.
Indiana Conservation officers are investigating the death of John Androusky. His body was found in about eight feet of water in Sugar Creek, upstream from the Jackson covered bridge in Bloomingdale, Indiana.
Officers say Androusky was hiking with a friend when he swam across Sugar Creek and back.
Witnesses say he was standing near the water's edge when he collapsed into the creek. His friend called 911 at around 5:30 pm and divers recovered Androusky's body about an hour later. Efforts to revive him were unsuccessful.
An autopsy was scheduled Tuesday to determine the cause of death.
Indiana Conservation Officers, the Parke County Sheriff's Department, the Bloomingdale Volunteer Fire Department, Parke County EMS and the Parke County Coroner's Office responded to the scene.
