(LONGSPORT) - The jury trial for Kayla Skaggs was canceled. However, she could still face a jury after a July 17 hearing.
24-year-old Kayla Skaggs was arrested on April 17 on a preliminary Class D felony charge of child seduction in a case involving a 17-year-old male student. Officials say the teen was not her student.
On May 21 Skaggs' attorney filed a motion to have the case dismissed. The motion is set to be considered on July 17, 24-Hour News 8's new partner at the Logansport Pharos-Tribune report.
The July 23 trial date was canceled according to court records.
Skaggs was in her first year as a special needs teacher at Logansport High School.
The school's superintendent says Skaggs had not been working at the school since her arrest. The school board voted to cancel Skaggs' teaching contract with Logansport Community Schools, which was the final action in her termination.
