(ANDERSON) - Police arrested a man for excessive discipline of his child at the Madison County Fair.
Justin Messersmith of Grant County was arrested Tuesday after fairgoers notified police of the discipline. Police say Messersmith's four-year-old son was suspected of damaging pick-up trucks parked at the fairgrounds. When Messersmith was told about this, witnesses say he became very upset and "went way too far with his actions" in disciplining the child.
The boy was taken to Community Hospital in Anderson, where police met with workers from the Department of Child Services.
Messersmith was booked on charges of battery injury to a child less than 14, strangulation, intimidation and neglect of a dependent. He is being held on $10,000 bond.
