(GARY) - Hundreds of law enforcement officers joined hundreds more northwest Indiana residents to pay tribute on Monday to the life and career of fallen Gary Police Officer Jeffery Westerfield.
Public officials who attended both the funeral and burial services included Lieutenant Governor Sue Ellspermann, representing Governor Mike Pence, and Indiana Senator Joe Donnelly. They all spoke highly of the 47-year-old patrolman and offered their public prayers and support for his family.
The funeral service was held in the Genesis Convention Center in Gary and Westerfield was laid to rest at Chapel Lawn Cemetery in nearby Schererville.
