IPS In Need Of Teachers

Last updated on Wednesday, July 23, 2014

(UNDATED) - The kids in the second largest district in the state are in need of more teachers.

Indianapolis Public Schools is losing close to 200 teachers in 3 months, a number that IPS Superintendent Dr. Lewis Ferebee says is overwhelming.

The exit comes from retirements, as well as teachers leaving to make more money in surrounding districts.

For perspective IPS employed roughly 2,200 teachers in the 2012-2013 school year.

Dr. Ferebee is going to look at licensing and hiring, as well as new teacher development, to try to boost the available pool of teachers.
