Man Arrested For His Involvement In Crothersville Shooting

(CROTHERSVILLE) - Indiana State Police arrested 28-year-old Jonathon Lee “Chisel” Chilton after his involvement in an alleged shooting on May 27.

On May 27th at 12:30 a.m. received a 911 call of a shooting incident that happened on Bard Road near Crothersville.

According to Detective Roger Drew, 35-year-old Jay McGinnis, of Austin reported the back window of his 2006 Nissan Altima had been shot out. McGinnis suffered a very minor injury as a result of the shooting. It is unknown if a bullet, bullet fragment, or glass caused the injury.

Police Chilton fired the shot.

Since the incident, troopers and other area law enforcement agencies have spent numerous man hours following up on leads and making an exhaustive search for Chilton but had thus far, been unsuccessful.

On Sunday night at 10:45 p.m. Chilton was arrested at the Cracker Barrel Restaurant in Scottsburg.

According to Trooper Nathan Teusch, Sunday afternoon troopers received a citizen's tip that Chilton was in the Scottsburg area.

Troopers searched the area all day when Tpr. Teusch with the assistance of the Southern Indiana Great Lakes U.S. Marshal's Task Force located Chilton in his vehicle in the parking lot of the restaurant.

When troopers approached the vehicle they ordered Chilton to surrender. When he refused to do so, troopers forced the driver's door open and took Chilton into custody

During the course of the investigation, they discovered numerous pills and drug paraphernalia in the vehicle. Chilton was taken to the Scott County Jail and now faces charges of Possession of Schedule II Controlled Substance (two counts), Possession of a Legend Drug (three counts), Possession of Paraphernalia, Resisting Law Enforcement, and Driving While Suspended with a Prior Conviction as a result of last night's incident.

As a result of the incident in Crothersville on May 27, Chilton is also facing charges in Jackson County of Attempted Battery with a Deadly Weapon (Class C Felony), Criminal Recklessness with a Weapon (Class C Felony), and Possession of a Handgun without a Permit (Class A Misdemeanor).

"Law enforcement in the area have put in a lot of hours trying to locate Chilton," says Detective Roger Drew. As a result of cooperation between law enforcement agencies and tips from area citizens, we have finally taken him into custody."
