(VIGO CO.) - On Saturday, at approximately 1:11 a.m., deputies from the Vigo County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the area of 42nd Avenue and Wire Street in northeastern Vigo County (north of Shrine Hill) on a motor vehicle accident with entrapment.
Deputy Don Lark arrived at approximately 1:18 a.m., and observed a black Humvee upside down in a field with several subjects around it. Deputy Lark then observed a female trapped under the roll bar of the vehicle. Otter Creek Fire Rescue arrived along with Seelyville and determined that the female was deceased.
According to witnesses, seven subjects were riding in a Humvee that was being driven by Kyle Pendergast of Terre Haute. The Humvee was being operated in a hay field when the vehicle rolled onto its roof. One of the passengers, Alyssa M. Hogue, a 19-year-old female of Terre Haute, was ejected and pinned under the roll bar of the vehicle as it came to rest on its roof. She didn't survive her injuries.
Kyle Pendergast was transported to Regional Hospital for a blood test which is required by Indiana Code. That test determined that Pendergast had a blood alcohol content of .108% and was also positive for marijuana. Pendergast was arrested and transported to the Vigo County Jail and booked in on a charge of Operating While Intoxicated Resulting in Death.
Alyssa's parents have been notified of her death.
The Investigating Officer is Deputy Jeremy Thomas. Deputy Don Lark, Sgt. Brent Hall, Lt. Scott Brown, and Deputy Dayton Huebner assisted.
Fire Rescue Units from Otter Creek, Nevins, Seelyville, and Riley were on-scene, as well as Trans Care and CARE ambulance.
