(INDIANAPOLIS) - Governor Mike Pence on Tuesday declared an official period of mourning to honor the loss of three Indiana police officers in the line of duty in one week.
Flags in Tipton County were lowered on Monday following the death of Tipton County Deputy Sheriff Jacob Calvin. Calvin was killed in a crash on June 28. He was laid to rest on Monday.
Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department Officer Perry Renn was killed in a shootout with an armed suspect on July 5.
Gary Police Officer Jeffrey Westerfield was found shot to death in his squad car the next day.
Gov. Pence has ordered that flags be lowered across Indiana during the period of mourning which extends through final services for Officer Renn and Officer Westerfield.
Pence planned to travel to Lake County on Tuesday to meet with the family of Officer Westerfield.
