(UNDATED) - A new National Park Service report shows Indiana’s national parks are continuing to do big business.
The report shows they generated $82 million, attracted 1.9 million visitors and supported almost 1200 jobs statewide in 2013.
However, the report says those figures are noticeably down from 2012. That's when parks took in $88.5 million and took in 2.15 visitors.
The report blames the decline on the government shutdown last October that last more than two weeks.
Most park visitor spending went toward lodging and food and beverages which made up a combine 57.6%. Admissions and fees, gas and oil, souvenirs and other expenses made up the rest.
The report concludes that park tourism continues to be a big player in the national economy.
Indiana's national parks include Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore, George Rogers Clark National Historical Park and Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial Park.
