(INDIANAPOLIS) - The four-day game convention GenCon kicks off in Indianapolis today with what’s expected to be a record-setting tournament of “Rock, Paper, Scissors.”
Organizers expect about five-thousand people to take a break from other games to square off for quick rounds of "Rock Paper Scissors" -- or, actually, the variation made famous on "Big Bang Theory": "Rock Paper Scissors Lizard Spock." The eventual champion will be crowned on Sunday, the final day of the convention, and win a MacBook.
Michael Williams is CEO of Oomba, which is running the tournament to showcase its new tournament-management social network app. Williams says the software is the product of a brainstorming discussion with Atari founder Nolan Bushnell about what it would take to have a universal tournament app.
Oomba will also be used to run GenCon tournaments for "Settlers of Catan" and games based on "The Walking Dead" and D-C Comics characters.
