(LAWRENCE) - NBA player Greg Oden was arrested early this morning and charged with battery after he allegedly attacked his ex-girlfriend and left her a bloody mess.
Police say the seven-foot tall former first-overall draft pick, who played last year for the Miami Heat, got into an argument with his ex-girlfriend at his mother's house in Lawrence, Indiana.
When they arrived at the scene, they found the woman bloodied with bruises and lacerations on her face.
Oden didn't deny hitting the woman. He told police "Things got out of control and I started to go after the victim. My relative and witness tried to hold me back, but as I swung my arms to move them out of the way, I punched the victim in the face. I was wrong and I know what has to happen."
He was taken to jail and booked on battery charges.
