(STEUBEN CO.) - Indiana Conservation Officers, Steuben County Sheriff’s Department and the Steuben County Coroner are investigating human skeletal remains found by a citizen at Hamilton Lake in Steuben County.
At approximately 7 pm on Saturday a Hamilton Lake resident found what appeared to be human skeletal remains near the shoreline of Hamilton Lake.
On Sunday, scuba divers from the Indiana Conservation Officers, Steuben County Sheriff's Dept. and the Steuben County SCURRT Team conducted an extensive underwater search of the area and found other possible human skeletal remains.
Initial investigation indicated the possibility that the remains may be archeological in nature.
Confirmation of the age of the skeletal remains will be confirmed by forensic experts in Indianapolis today. The findings of this examination will be released when available.
Departments assisting Conservation Officers at the scene include The Steuben County Coroner, Steuben County Sheriff's Department, Hamilton Police Department and The Hamilton Fire Department.
