(JOHNSON CO.) - A Greenwood man is dead after authorities say he committed suicide early Friday morning.
Johnson County Sheriff Doug Cox says jail officers were making their rounds shortly after 3 a.m. when they discovered 30-year-old Charles T. Blessing hanging from a bed frame in his cell. Sheriff Cox says that a jailer cut Blessing's body down and, with the help of other officers, began CPR. Members of the Franklin Fire Department and Seals Ambulance Service arrived shortly thereafter and also began effort to revive Blessing. All attempts were unsuccessful.
Sheriff Cox says that Blessing was alone in a locked cell and had no roommates. He adds that Blessing had been held there since July 9. The reason for his incarceration was not readily available.
An autopsy was performed by Johnson County Coroner Craig Lutz. Those results are expected soon.
