(KOSCIUSKO CO.) - A man is in jail after police say he burglarized a Leesburg home Wednesday morning.
Police arrested 43-year-old Mack S. Stokes of Warsaw. Officers say he fled the home, in the 6000 block of Old State Road 15, after being confronted by a person with a gun.
According to the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department, the homeowner awoke around 10:15 a.m. after hearing a suspicious sound. As she was searching the home she found a broken window and a man police believe to be Stokes breaking into the home armed with a hammer.
The woman alerted her son who confronted Stokes with his gun. Stokes took off in his car and tried to run over the son in order to get away.
Police were called and caught up with Stokes who was traveling north on Old State Road 15. He was arrested and preliminarily charged with felony burglary. Police also discovered the car he was driving was not his, and he did not have permission from the owner to use the vehicle.
Stokes is being held on a $6,000 bond.
