(NEWBURGH) - Newburgh is offering free barge tours this Saturday along the riverfront.
Barges are an everyday sight for those who live near the riverfront, but most people in the Tri-State only see them from far away.
Newburgh resident Phillip Field decided to create an event to give people the chance to see one up close.
Through a partnership with American Electric Power river operations, "The Legacy" towboat and one of the company's barges will dock at the bank of the Newburgh riverfront near Water and State Streets.
The Legacy is 166 feet long and 48 feet wide, and is one of AEP's 70 towboats.
AEP's barges carry 65 million tons of grain, steel and other cargo every year.
They will have employees on hand for presentations at city hall from 10 a.m. To 3 p.m.
The free tours will run from 10 a.m. To 4 p.m.
There will also be free calliope music and entertainment for all ages along the riverfront.
