(MARIN COUNTY, Calif.) - Actor and comedian Robin Williams died from asphyxia due to hanging, Lt. Keith Boyd with the Marin County Sheriff’s Department said Tuesday.
Lt. Boyd said Williams' wife last saw him alive on the evening of Aug. 10th before going to bed. She left the house that morning thinking her husband was still sleeping.
Williams' personal assistant became concerned when he hadn't heard from Williams by 11:45 am Monday morning. The assistant found Williams seated in a chair with a belt around his neck, slightly suspended off the ground. Lt. Boyd said there were no signs of foul play. When Williams' body was discovered, it was cold to the touch, Lt. Boyd said.
The final cause and manner of death won't be certified for a few weeks.
Lt. Boyd would not say whether or not Williams left any sort of note. His wife was the only other person in the home at the time of his death, which occurred sometime between 10:30 pm Sunday and noon Monday.
