(INDIANAPOLIS) - The Indianapolis Zoo announced Zoya is the name fans chose for a 12-week-old Amur tiger cub.
Nearly 7,000 votes were tallied over a two-week time span and Zoya received 61 percent of the vote. The name means "life" and is a variation of Zoe, which is a popular feminine name in Russia and the Ukraine where Amur tigers originate.
Zoya was born on July 10 and now weighs almost 23 pounds pounds.
Zoo guests will be able to see Zoya and her 6-year-old mom, Andrea, for the first time later this year.
Zoya's birth brings the number of Amur tigers at the zoo to four, also including 7-year-old male Petya, the cub's father.
