After a receiving a standing ovation in the council chamber, Dunn thanked the council for the resolution. "I will always consider Indianapolis, Indiana not only part of my heart and my home but one of the most wonderful places that I've ever lived."
Dunn said she is leaving Indy at the end of the week and will spend half the year in Tennessee and the other half in Florida. "I'll be thinking of y'all in the winter," she said.
Dunn led the Fever to the WNBA Championship in 2012. She announced her retirement in May and said she plans to continue to mentor and advise professional and college coaches.
Before she left, Dunn had a message for the female members of the council. "I love seeing all these women in leadership roles. Keep it up. Next time I come back, I want it to be 50/50."
