(INDIANAPOLIS) - Colts’ Pat McAffee, late Thursday afternoon was at Northwest High School unloading a trailer filled with donations.
The Colts punter heard the team needed equipment, jerseys and shoes. He made a few calls and wrote the check.
He surprised the team with a visit as he dropped off the equipment.
"You guys have no idea what was happening behind the scenes. There was an article that came out about your team that I read. I didn't like it much and I wanted to do as much as I could for you guys, because high school sports is literally the backbone of your life. You don't know it yet, but gathering around with your friends and fighting for a common cause, sharing a goal, emotion, working hard together, will set you up for the rest of your life. I got ahold of Coach Butler, kind of figured out what we could do, I teamed up with Pacesetter Sports in Terre Haute, Indiana. Basically we got you guys with everything you could possibly need," he said.
"We're gonna deck you guys out with some swag!" McAfee said to cheers as he showed the team their new uniforms. "These are your new jerseys, okay? I want you guys to wear these, I want you to win in them, and I want you to give it your all for Coach Butler, for your school, but most importantly for each other. Do the right thing on the field, off the field. This is a quote that I literally live by. A lot of people think I was born with a silver spoon. That's 100 percent not true. The quote that I live by is, 'in a world full of average, don't be scared to be great.'"
The team's head coach helped give out new cleats. There were pads and helmets, too - all given from a Colts player with a huge heart.
