(FORT WAYNE) - A woman faces a felony battery charge after her daughter used a cellphone to record her beating and berating her son on the drive home from a store.
According to the affidavit for probable cause, the video showed the mother, Meagen T Bredemeyer, 35, of Grabill repeatedly punching her 14-year-old son on the head and stomach as they were driving home from a Walmart on Sunday, September 7. During the drive she also yelled obscenities, at one point telling her son "I hope I gave you a (expletive) black eye you (expletive) piece of (expletive)."
While out shopping, her 14-year-old son asked to return to the car which upset Bredemeyer. She went to the parking lot, unlocked the door and returned to shopping with her two other children.
On the way home the mother and son started to argue. The arguing became so intense that Bredemeyer's 16-year-old daughter, who was sitting in the back seat with her six-year-old sibling, started to record the incident.
Court documents outline what was captured in the cellphone video, including the son trying to clean his glasses when his mother hit him again. The son then started to defend himself and began swinging his arms. When the son started to cry, the mother said "You had it coming."
According to court documents, the mother also told her children "I am who I am; God made me this way and this is the way he meant me to be; and I'm perfect in his eyes and that's all that (expletive) matters. She went on to tell her 14-year-old son to never put his hands on her again. However, when the son responded that she was the one who started the incident, the mother replied "Because I'm the (expletive) parent and I'm allowed to smack your smart (expletive) mouth."
When police spoke to the 16-year-old daughter about the incident, she said this wasn't the first time her mother had verbally and physically assaulted her 14-year-old brother.
Bredemeyer will be in court to be formally charged on Thursday.
