(INDIANAPOLIS) - A local high school student is helping shine the spotlight on Central Indiana.
Her work could bring tens of thousands of dollars to our community, but she needs your help.
16-year-old Ruby Smith is a natural born leader.
The junior at Broad Ripple High School has been selected as one of only five finalists nationwide as a Maytag Dependable Leader.
Smith has the chance to win $50,000 for the Boys and Girls Club of Indianapolis, with $20,000 of that amount going to her for a college scholarship.
She's been making a difference at the Boys and Girls Club since she was 10 years old - volunteering, helping to create literacy programs, and overall, just being an amazing example.
"The boys and girls club is a home away from home," Smith said. "They're like family to me, they're mentors, they help me with my homework, financial support."
Jeff Bumgardner with the Boys & Girls Club said Ruby has been a role model not only for the kids, but also the staff.
"She's participated in over 95 percent of our clubs," he said. "She has done almost every program for our teens, along with 100 volunteer hours."
Out of the boys and girls clubs in the united states, The Indianapolis Boys & Girls Club chapter gives out the most scholarship money out of all the chapters in the U.S., so Smith winning would continue to help the community.

Voting is open until Sept. 19.
Smith plays the viola, violin and piano, and is hoping she can secure the scholarship money for college. She wants to learn music composition.
