(MERRILLVILLE) - The Northwest Indiana Major Crimes Task Force hopes to complete its investigation by this weekend into the shooting death of Merrillville Patrolman Nick Schultz.
Schultz was shot in the head late Friday night in a shootout with Michael Hrnciar in Merrillville. Hrnciar then fatally shot himself after critically wounding Schultz.
Investigators are talking with other police officers who responded along with Schultz.
Family members donated Schultz's organs, which were harvested at a suburban Chicago hospital.
A group of law enforcement officers provided an escort for Schultz's body from the hospital to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office this morning for a formal autopsy.
