(INDIANAPOLIS) - The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department says two people have been arrested in connection to the theft of a trailer loaded with guns and ammunition.
Detectives arrested 42-year-old Clifford Helm and 54-year-old Linda Panken early Thursday morning. Police say additional evidence was seized during the arrests, but it's unclear if that property is connected to the recent theft of the guns.
The trailer was stolen from Profire Firearms, located at 7341 Rockville Road, sometime over the weekend. It was full of dozens of weapons and ammo.
Monday night, investigators found the trailer in the 4400 block of Ralston Avenue after an alert neighbor saw the trailer and called police. Officers said the 29 military style weapons and over 20,000 rounds of ammunition inside were gone.
Helm was arrested on preliminary charges of possession of machine gun, theft, carrying a handgun without a license and possession of paraphernalia. Panken was arrested on preliminary charges of possession of cocaine. Both were transported to the Arrestee Processing Center.
Police say this case is still an active investigation, and detectives continue to urge anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers of Indiana at (317) 262-TIPS (8477).
