(UNDATED) - Indiana’s unemployment numbers are out for August and while there are encouraging signs of an economic turnaround, the struggle continues for thousands of Hoosiers.
It's estimated that right now in Indiana 180,000 people are looking for work.
Sunday when federal unemployment benefits and enrollment begins and that's also the day a lot of people fill out important forms, but often have questions.
People who need help previously had to wait until Monday, but the Indiana Department of Workforce Development has decided to open on Sundays to help those in need.
About a dozen workers will work in the downtown Indianapolis call center to answer questions from across the state and the new Sunday hours will cut down on calls and wait times during the week.
This only applies to the call center and online chat. Phone lines and web chats will be staffed on Sundays from 9:00 am - 2:30 pm. They are closed on Saturdays.
Work One Offices remain closed on Saturday and Sunday; the Sunday hours are only for call centers and web chats.
Indiana's unemployment rate is down for the first time in four months: it dropped to 5.8% in August.
The state rate is slightly below the national level of 6.1%.
But there's still a lot of work to do to get that number to continue going down, especially for those who have been looking for a permanent job.
