(JEFFERSON CO.) - State police are trying to find out which culprit or culprits have been tearing up the pristine green lawn at a southeast-Indiana veterans cemetery.
Indiana State Police said a trooper responded to a report of vandalism Wednesday afternoon at the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Madison.
The trooper was told an unknown vehicle had been driven into the grassy area near the headstones and appeared to have done a burnout, leaving tracks and ruts across nearly 90 feet of the lawn.
ISP said cemetery officials reported this was not the first time this kind of thing has happened.
The officials said last year, Madison police took down a report after something similar had happened, but the people responsible were never identified.
State police said they're not sure whether the same person or vehicle did this both times, or if it has been a different perpetrator.
If you have any information on this destruction of the veterans cemetery lawn, you're urged to report it to Trooper Nate Adams at the ISP-Versailles Post by calling 812-689-5000. You can remain anonymous when calling.
