(ALBION) - An exotic animal sanctuary in northeastern Indiana is building a new habitat for macaws, Amazon parrots, cockatoos and other former pet birds that have been cared for in a variety of places throughout the compound.
The News Sun reports the Black Pine Animal Sanctuary also is planning to complete a permanent living space for two tigers rescued from Ohio. Black Pine executive director Lori Gagen says the tiger project has been part of ongoing fundraising since 2012.
A gift from the Richard J. Hoffman Trust is providing funding for both projects. Hoffman, a Fort Wayne resident, died in November.
Gagen says she hopes ground will be broken soon on the exotic bird habitat.
