(INDIANAPOLIS) - The federal government is giving more than $605,000 in rental vouchers to Indiana public housing agencies to help 127 homeless Hoosier veterans find permanent housing.
The Department of Housing and Urban Development and the Department of Veterans Affairs announced the award Wednesday.
The vouchers are provided through a program that combines rental assistance from HUD with case management and clinical services provided by the VA.
HUD Secretary Julian Castro called it unacceptable that so many veterans are homeless after serving their country. He says the vouchers will provide targeted assistance to those in need.
Indiana public housing agencies in Bloomington, Evansville, Gary, Indianapolis and Lafayette will receive the vouchers.
