(CROWN POINT) - Prosecutors have charged a 30-year-old Gary man with murder after he allegedly shot a 13-year-old neighbor who he suspected of burglarizing his home.
Khanji Fairley was being held without bond Monday at the Lake County Jail following the slaying of Kobe Jones of Gary.
Gary Police Detective Daryl Gordon says in an affidavit that a witness told him Fairley was agitated Friday after discovering his home had been broken into.
The witness says Fairley pointed at Jones sitting on the porch of his home nearby, said Jones was laughing, and said he knew the boy was the burglar.
The witness told Gordon that a short time later, a man matching Fairley's description ran up to the porch and shot him several times while the boy fled inside the home.
