(INDIANAPOLIS) - The Skyline Ride at the Indianapolis Zoo will remain closed for the rest of the year after a malfunction earlier this month.
On Sunday, October 12, the ride stopped, stranding six passengers in two cars roughly 30 feet in the air. The problem was traced back to a driveshaft in the gearbox of the gondola that broke.
"Since we are moving into a season where the weather conditions would stop ride operations, we anticipate the Skyline Ride will remain closed for the remainder of 2014," Judy Palermo said in a written statement to Eyewitness News. "We don't foresee any inspections until spring or early summer when the weather gets warmer."
Zoo officials expect more information from the manufacturer in about a week based on their additional testing.
