Supporters Hold Vigil For ISIS Prisoner

Last updated on Thursday, October 9, 2014

(INDIANAPOLIS) - About 100 people gathered Wednesday at Butler University for a vigil in support of Indiana native Abdul Rahman Kassig, who is currently being held by ISIS terrorists.

The vigil was held not only to pray for Kassig's safe return but to bring more awareness to the plight of Syrian refugees whom Kassig had dedicated his life to help.

Faryal Khatri attended the vigil and says she met Kassig briefly at a fundraiser for his organization. She says he was very passionate and committed to helping those in need.

Vigil organizer Azher Khan says it is possible that Kassig will be released. He says they have hope and believe in the power of prayers among people of all faiths. Khan says they also want to get the message across that the actions of ISIS don't reflect the true beliefs of the Islamic religion. He says their actions are against all religious norms, not just those of Islam.
