(ALLEN CO.) - A 16-year-old girl who suffered a head injury when she was thrown from the roof rack of a SUV in a high school parking lot parking lot has died after a week in the hospital.
The Journal Gazette reports Mellannie R. Bishop was injured Sept. 24 when she and another teenage girl lost their footing atop an SUV that another teen was driving outside Wayne High School. Two other girls were also riding atop the vehicle.
Bishop fell hard onto the pavement outside the school, suffering a serious head injury, as the SUV made a sharp turn.
The Allen County Coroner's Office says Bishop, who was a junior at the school, died Thursday after a week in intensive care. The coroner ruled her death accidental resulting from blunt force trauma.
