(UNDATED) - The man wanted in a triple shooting and carjacking in Indianapolis has been charged in a shootout with Chicago Police which injured two officers Tuesday night.
Chicago Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy says 42-year-old Daniel Brown faces one count of felony murder, two counts of attempted murder and one count of aggravated battery-discharge of a firearm. McCarthy says the boyfriend of Brown's sister, 42-year-old Daniel Jackson was found dead inside the apartment after the shootout. He says evidence suggests Brown may be responsible for Jackson's death but that remains under investigation.
The shooting began after 58-year-old Captain Ed Kulbida went to the apartment on the south side of Chicago to serve an arrest warrant for Brown. Brown allegedly began shooting, hitting Kulbida in the head and shoulder and also wounding a Chicago PD detective. After a six-hour standoff, SWAT officers took Brown into custody.
McCarthy says Kulbida, a 29-year veteran, has been released from the hospital. The detective who was injured wasn't aware he was hit until Wednesday night when he went to the hospital to have a welt looked at. X-rays showed a bullet fragment underneath his skin. That fragment was removed and both he and Kulbida are expected to recover.
Brown is also wanted for a shooting spree Saturday night in Indianapolis in which three people were injured. He's also accused of carjacking and stealing a semi tractor-trailer.
Police say Brown will first face the charges in Chicago before facing the charges in Indianapolis.
