(WAYNE TOWNSHIP) - An 11-year-old boy was unharmed Saturday afternoon after falling into an icy pond on the west side.
Wayne Township Fire Department Captain Mike Pruitt said the child fell into the pond near the 7000 block of Red Tail Court when he tried to retrieve a toy.
The child was in the water for approximately eight minutes until he was able to pull himself up onto the ice.
Pruitt said the child's mother then went into the ice and assisted him to shore.
Emergency responders treated the child and released him at the scene.
"We cannot emphasize enough the dangers of going onto icy ponds! We are thankful this young man is still with his family tonight," the fire Department tweeted.
