(INDIANAPOLIS) - The State Board of Education is set to release Indiana’s “A-F” school grades following a three-week delay.
The board had been expected to approve those grades on Oct. 15, but delayed that until Wednesday's meeting after officials from two schools told the panel their students' International Baccalaureate scores had been improperly factored.
Indiana's school grades are key factors in determining teacher pay and school funding, and also help determine whether a school is taken over by private operators.
Former state schools Superintendent Tony Bennett secretly overhauled the school-grading formula in 2012 to raise the grade for an Indianapolis charter school founded by a Republican donor.
Bennett resigned as Florida's schools chief shortly after the grade change was uncovered last year. Indiana leaders then launched a review of the grading formula.
