(HAMMOND) - A large deer that stunned northern Indiana shoppers when it ran inside a Walmart store died after officers stunned it several times with their tasers.
Lake County Sheriff's Department spokeswoman Patti Van Til tells The Times of Munster that the buck was one of three deer that tried to enter the Hammond store on Friday afternoon.
Van Til says the two other deer ran away, but a large male entered the store and collided with a wall, causing several people to scream.
An off-duty Lake County police officer working security at the store shocked the deer twice with his taser gun, immobilizing it. But Van Til says the deer died after another officer stunned it two more times to keep it from running into shoppers who gathered near the animal.
