(STATEHOUSE) - For the second time this week, the Indiana Department of Education’s website was hacked.
For a brief time Thursday, when you attempted to go to the website's front page, you instead saw a message that read "SURPRISED WE ARE HERE AGAIN ??? THE LAST TIME THIS SITE WAS DOWN NO PATCH WAS DONE." The message has since been removed.
"As with the earlier attempt this week, there is no sign that any data hosted on the website was compromised," said Dan Altman, spokesman for the department. "The Department's Information Technology staff has taken the website down temporarily while this issue is addressed."
Hackers first broke into the DOE site on Monday, which Altman says was caused by a vulnerability within Drupal, the content management system used by the department as well as millions of other websites. Altman says no data was stolen during that breach, and the website was back online by Monday afternoon.
