(COLUMBIA CITY) - A former county auditor in northeastern Indiana faces felony theft charges over what authorities say was the misuse of about $106,000 in county money.
The theft and official misconduct charges were filed Monday against 47-year-old Jenny McGuire, who resigned August as the Whitley County auditor after being elected to the office in 2010.
The Journal Gazette reports a state police investigation found McGuire used county money for personal expenses including vacation and restaurant costs, new kitchen flooring and satellite television and cellphone bills.
The Republican is also charged with writing checks totaling nearly $24,000 for unapproved uses while she was treasurer of the Indiana County Auditors Association.
