(FORT WAYNE) - A 23-year-old Fort Wayne man has pleaded guilty to murder, felony murder and robbery in the beating death of a 78-year-old woman in August.
The Journal Gazette reports Zachary Reinders agreed to plead guilty Friday in the death of Diane Woods in return for prosecutors agreeing he wouldn't face a possible sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.
He will be sentenced in December.
According to court documents, Reinders beat her over the head with a fire poker, then took her bank card and went on a shopping spree.
Police say Woods' son found her body Aug. 8 in her home at the Valley Hills Mobile Home Park on the city's northwest side after she failed to answer phone calls.
