(EVANSVILLE) - Authorities say the investigation into a massive fire that destroyed a historic building in Evansville has been suspended.
Firefighters say the fire broke out October 24th around 2:00 a.m. at the old Body Panels building on 3rd and Maryland.
The building dates back to 1871.
According lead fire investigator Richard Howard, the fire started in the building's basement. He says the gas to the building had been shut off, but the electricity was still on.
Howard says the area of origin for the fire has been determined, but he says investigators are unable to get a closer look at the exact point of origin because of the buildings hazardous condition.
He says the investigation team will try to go back in if the building can be structurally secured.
Howard says right now the fire cause remains undetermined.
