(GRANT CO.) - A lawsuit has been filed against the Grant County Sheriff and Correctional Healthcare Companies over the death of a 25-year-old inmate.
Kendra Shaw had an acute asthma attack on May 7th while in the Grant County Jail for probation violation and theft.
She was taken off life support and died the next day at a Fort Wayne hospital. Attorneys allege that jail corrections officers failed to call the ambulance in time to save Shaw's life.
Attorney for Shaw's family Tim Rowe says the family should be compensated, but that the case is also about more than money.
"This can prevent possibly another death too, from happening in Grant County," Rowe said. "And how much is a human life worth? We want justice in this case, justice for Kendra and justice for her family, and unfortunately you cannot bring her back."
