(SILVER LAKE) - Authorities in northern Indiana say a man was badly hurt when he was buried up to his neck by soil when a trench caved in on him.
Emergency crews were called Wednesday to the site near the Kosciusko County town of Silver Lake.
The county sheriff's department says 66-year-old Dennis Ayres of North Manchester was installing field drainage tile when the trench's dirt walls collapsed. Relatives began working to dig him out before emergency crews arrived at the scene about 40 miles south of South Bend.
Ayres was flown to a Fort Wayne hospital in serious condition with shoulder and torso injuries.
