(INDIANAPOLIS) - Governor Mike Pence has declared November as Adoption Awareness Month for Indiana and is urging improvements in the state’s adoption process.
Pence says the state must continue to work toward finding a loving home for every child in Indiana. The governor touted an adoption tax credit legislators approved this year, but said more must be done. He says the Department of Child Services is recruiting adoptive families for between 75 and 100 children.
The governor's offices say an adoption fair is being held Monday at the Statehouse. Pence has called for making Indiana the nation's "most pro-adoption state."
Pence says he and his wife went through the adoption process before their first child was born. They later had two daughters.
