(TIPTON) - A person is dead after a dinner train hit a vehicle Saturday night.
The Indiana Transportation Museum's Blue Arrow dinner train hit the 2003 white Chevy pick-up truck around 8:20 p.m. on the south side of Tipton. 17-year-old Ava Jean Ridenour was dead when rescue workers arrived. Her air bags deployed, but she was not wearing a seat belt, according to police.
The train was traveling approximately 18 mph southbound approaching Park Road at the time of the accident. The truck was traveling east on Park Road, following another vehicle. Both vehicles disregarded the active warning lights and audible signals, according to authorities. The truck was pushed south of the intersection more than 300 feet and was still touching the front of the locomotive when investigators arrived.
Several roads around the 400 block of Park Road were closed for about two hours, including State Road 19.
Passengers said the train had just left about 10 minutes before the accident. The train was scheduled to stop in Atlanta to pick up more passengers, then head on to Noblesville and Fishers for the final stops.
The 100 passengers on board the train were moved onto buses to be taken to their respective destinations.
