(INDIANAPOLIS) - Indianapolis fire officials say space heaters are to blame for an early morning fire that displaced seven residents.
Resident Johnny Walker says his barking dog Bogey woke him up just before 1 a.m. His home was full of smoke and he escaped from a second floor window and alerted neighbors who also got out. Walker's dog did not survive the blaze.
Walker says he had three space heaters working. Authorities say one of the downstairs heaters was too close to combustibles which caught fire. They say space heaters should always be at least three feet away from anything in all directions and should never be left unattended.
