(EVANSVILLE) - An Evansville man was arrested after he lived inside a house with a dead woman for nearly a week.
Officials say Samantha Dennis died on Black Friday and was left on the floor of a First Ave. home covered by a blanket.
Larry Harms Jr. was arrested shortly after the body was found. He lived inside the home with Dennis.
Officers say Harms Jr.'s landlord is also his father, Larry Harms Sr.
According to police, Harms Jr. told his father he didn't know where Dennis was, so Harms Sr. decided to go to the house and look for her.
Police say Harms Jr. admitted that Dennis died on Black Friday after he heard a thump and found her lying face down without a pulse.
During an investigation, Harms Jr. told officers that Dennis was sick and a doctor allegedly told her she had a short time to live.
He went on to tell police Dennis was a drug abuser and on the day she died, she smoked marijuana, took meth, and acid.
Police say seven grams of a leafy substance tested positive for a synthetic drug, burnt foul, and pipes were found inside the home.
A neighbor, Jenny Long, says that she had just moved to the area when the body was found inside.
She says that from what officers told her, the story got even more bizarre.
"The guy was trying to get a taxidermist to stuff her and broke out windows and tried to keep the body ventilated," said Jenny. "I don't trust anybody. I don't really like this side of town. It does creep me out."
Harms Jr. was taken to the Vanderburgh County Jail on several charges, including failure to report a dead body.
